Slim and elegant, the Prestige PS42 marks MSI’s return to ultraportables

It’s no secret that MSI has largely been focusing on their gaming portfolio for the last few years and while they also maintain a non-gaming line-up, we’ve not seen a notable player until now in Computex 2018.

The 14-inch Prestige PS42 is MSI’s ticket back to the ultraportable scene with its unique mix of hardware specs, design, and features. Sporting a slim bezel design and an all-aluminum body, the Prestige PS42 flaunts it naturally in a brushed aluminum finish with a slight nod to an industrial look. Within its ultrathin 15.9mm body, you get an Intel 8th Generation Core processor that can go up to a Core i7 variant and has a GeForce MX150 discrete graphics to accelerate certain work and video workflows while also allowing users to indulge in light gaming.

There's even a full-sized SD card reader - great for creative professionals and photographers on the go.

The Prestigte PS42 is also equipped with a fingerprint sensor integrated into the trackpad that’s Windows Hello compatible. The webcam however isn’t. MSI also says they will have a version of the PS42 with TPM built-in to better appeal to office usage needs.

Equipped with a reasonably specced internal battery, the Prestige PS42 boasts up to 10 hours of battery life in a productivity workload.

This 1.19kg aluminum notebook will be coming to retail sometime in Q3 2018, including our local market.

MSI is no stranger to ultraportables and in fact one of the pioneers in that arena over a decade ago with their X-Slim series. We’re certainly glad that the Prestige PS42 is a clear comeback for MSI to carve its niche in the competitive ultraportable segment.
