SK Hynix to supply custom-designed low latency DRAM chip for Apple Vision Pro?
A custom-designed low latency DRAM chip might be used to support the Apple R1 chip in the Vision Pro.
The Korea Herald reports that SK Hynix is the exclusive supplier of the DRAM chip for the Apple Vision Pro. The world's second biggest memory chipmaker has reportedly developed a custom 1-gigabit DRAM with increased number of input and output pins to reduce delays.
The DRAM is also believed to be built using a unique packaging method, Fan-Out Wafer Level Packaging, where it is attached to the R1 chip as an integrated unit. This design will offer double the data processing speed.
The Apple Vision Pro is powered by the M2 chip and R1 chip. While the M2 chip provides the computing power to process content, run the VisionOS platform and execute computer vision algorithms, the R1 chip will process signals from the numerous sensors, cameras and mics on the Vision Pro and stream new video to the wearer's eyes.
