Singtel has announced the launch of its latest consumer security offering, Broadband Protect, a service providing network-level security to help keep home users and their devices safe from online threats.

This means that any mobile phone, laptop, or smart home devices such as door locks, televisions, cameras, and more, will be protected from malicious websites when connected to a Singtel’s customer’s home network using technologies like artificial intelligence and machine learning.

However, should the customer still wish to visit a site that has been flagged as malicious, they need to disable the protection, access the site, and then re-enable the protection using their My Singtel App.

Broadband Protect is part of Singtel’s 3-Step Security Approach, which comprises Network-level, Device-level and Community-level security to protect data and information and providing the tools and knowledge to stay a step ahead of digital threats.

Network level

Singtel implements measures such as real-time detection, call filtering, and firewalls to detect malicious links and suspicious phrases, as well as consistently monitors and blocks over 30 million scam calls and 20 million scam messages on its network each month to ensure consumers stay safe online.

Device level

To safeguard customers’ data on their personal devices, Singtel provides device protection software like Singtel Security Suite Triple Protect powered by McAfee, which features Automated Secure VPN. This security application also includes antivirus protections and password managers that can cover 20 devices. This service costs S$13.02 a month.

Community level

With new threats emerging constantly, Singtel is committed to helping the community secure its data and digital accounts against scammers. Ongoing workshops at Singtel retail outlets, on social media and website aim to keep everyone informed of the latest scams. The latest in Singtel’s education campaigns is titled ‘Nice Saves’ where users hit the ‘block & report’ button when they receive a scam message, to better protect themselves against such threats.

Broadband Protect will be free for the first two months and S$2.97 a month thereafter.

This is similar to SecureNet from ViewQwest which provides network-level security. SecureNet uses a next-generation firewall to conduct full network traffic inspection to and from the Internet, and automatically blocks suspicious activities or online threats.

StarHub on the other hand has SmartSupport Home. Under this plan, subscribers will receive protection as well as tech support for every device connected.
