Singtel to offer 1Gbps LTE after successful trial with Ericsson

Singtel mobile customers will soon enjoy up to 1Gbps LTE speeds after the telco announced that it has hit the landmark speed when testing Ericsson’s quad-band FDD/TDD Carrier Aggregation (CA) technology. According to Singtel, this achievement will help it to optimize the usage of its newly acquired 2,500MHz spectrum band.

In its press release, Singtel says that it will progressively roll out this technology at key high traffic locations, such as Orchard Road, Raffles Place, Tanjong Pagar, and Clarke Quay. A handset that supports quad-band FDD/TDD CA is required to enjoy this 1Gbps speed, and according to Singtel, such handsets can be expected from the second half of 2018.

Existing Singtel smartphone users can also expect up to 20% faster mobile broadband speeds on average, as the telco upgrades its network with Ericsson’s intelligent Bandwidth-Aware CA feature. In a nutshell, this feature allows operators to manage spectrum more efficiently and enables customers’ smartphones to automatically select the best spectrum band combination available to get faster speeds.
