Singtel is leading two 5G initiatives that complement Singapore’s Smart Nation vision

Singtel has announced two 5G initiatives that will boost enterprise innovations and digital transformation in the maritime and manufacturing industries. Singtel, the Agency for Science, Technology and Research’s (A*STAR) Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Center (ARTC), and JTC have inked a MOU to implement 5G network at the ARTC, located in the Jurong Business District.

Interested business entities can leverage 5G technologies to explore implementations that include IoT, artificial intelligence and robotics to create emerging manufacturing solutions that can improve their overall productivity. IoT and augmented reality solutions can leverage on the increased bandwidth and low-latency advantages of 5G for more efficient implementations.

Singtel is also awarded the 5G Trial Tech Call by Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and PSA Corporation Ltd. (PSA). Together with M1, Singtel will test 5G technologies that will determine the performance and capabilities of port applications in a live Smart Port environment. The applications are expected to include tele-remote control of port equipment and enhancing Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV) operations.

These two 5G initiatives under Singtel’s purview will add momentum to the company’s progressive introduction of the new technology to help industries join the digital transformation bandwagon.
