SingTel and Samsung Bring to Singapore the "Smart Life" with Samsung Galaxy S

Singapore, May 27, 2010 – Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel) and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., a leading mobile phone provider, announced that the hotly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S (Model: GT-I9000) smartphone will be available to SingTel Group customers from 4 June 2010. SingTel will be the first in the world to introduce Galaxy S in Singapore, followed by its wholly-owned subsidiary, Optus, and regional associates, AIS, Globe and Telkomsel.

“Being the first operator globally to introduce the breakthrough Samsung Galaxy S is a landmark as it puts SingTel customers ahead of the world. With a combined regional mobile customer base of 293 million, SingTel can leverage that buying power to secure the latest in handset and service innovations. SingTel's collaboration with Samsung to introduce this breakthrough device signifies its commitment to be a multimedia solutions company as well as its commitment to bring latest device and best mobile experience to its customers.

“Samsung, the world’s largest TV manufacturer brings its innovative multimedia expertise to this mobile phone. Our customers will be the envy in the market, being the first to enjoy this powerful Android 2.1 multimedia smartphone with an ultra-responsive SUPER AMOLED screen. Our value-packed Galaxy 3G price plans at launch offer our customers additional talk time, live MobileTV viewing and unlimited music downloads from the award-winning AMPed music service for an enhanced multimedia mobile experience,” said Mr Yuen Kuan Moon, Executive Vice President, Consumer Group, SingTel.

SUPER AMOLED brilliant screen and Android 2.1 up the ante

The Android 2.1 Samsung Galaxy S, first unveiled at the International CTIA Wireless 2010 in March this year, is designed to provide immersive, intelligent and integrated experiences, with the power to enrich people’s lives through best-in-class services and technologies. The Galaxy S will allow users around the world to experience the “Smart Life”, which Samsung anticipates will shift the way consumers view smartphones and how they interact with them in their daily lives.

Samsung believes that the Android-powered Galaxy S will set a new standard for smartphones. “The Galaxy S, with its best-of-class technology and features, will appeal to the growing number of Singaporeans who are increasingly connected and demand more from their mobile phones,” said Mr Sung-Hyun Moon, Managing Director, Samsung Asia Pte Ltd. “The Galaxy S is the perfect device for people who want that extra edge in both their personal and professional lives.”

The Galaxy S’ highly responsive 4-inch SUPER AMOLED display delivers ultra-brilliant and clear images, offering a viewing experience second to none. With 80% less reflectivity, images stay bright and clear, even outdoors in the sun and when viewed from an angle.

The mDNIe (mobile Digital Natural Image engine) – a technology used in Samsung’s best-selling LCD and LED TVs – boasts an even sharper and crisper viewing experience for photos, videos, and e-books. With the super fast 1GHz processor and HD video play and record functions, the Galaxy S creates a perfect environment to record, edit and play HD video, to browse the Internet, and to read e-books. Coupled with its SUPER AMOLED display, Galaxy S is perfect for watching videos and Mobile TV.

Android Market applications, Social Hub feature for a simple and smarter life

A variety of applications from the Android Market allows users to extend the benefits and excitement of their smartphone experience. Users also have access to Google mobile services such as Google Search, Gmail, and Google Maps.

Multi-tasking is a breeze with Galaxy S smart applications, which allow users to update social networking accounts like Facebook, check emails, listen to music and send messages without having to open and close applications. With Bluetooth functionalities, the Samsung Galaxy S makes sharing contacts and favourite files child’s play. Users can stay connected with social networks through Social HubTM, which offers convenient, single-point access to all email accounts, calendars and personal contacts. The impressive battery life offers users up to six hours of continuous talktime.

Value-packed price plans for an enhanced Multimedia Mobile Experience

SingTel is introducing three enhanced Galaxy 3G Flexi price plans at launch from $39/month to bring customers an enhanced multimedia experience. Customers will enjoy unlimited LIVE MobileTV Basic Pack viewing for up to 24 months, free additional 200 minutes of talktime, free local mobile data of 12GB (capped at $30), plus free access to the award-winning SingTel AMPed offering unlimited music downloads. The Samsung Galaxy S is available from as low as $0, on selected SingTel Mobile plans.
