Interested customers need to check if their homes are ready to support Simba Broadband.
Simba has announced the launch of its first fibre broadband packages, and these will be charged quarterly and annually. First promoted in late January, our forum community has been very interested and has been engaged in deep discussions. More recently, many who've previously registered interest are now getting invites to subscribe to Simba's broadband plan.
Simba’s Quarterly package is charged at S$60 a quarter before GST, while the annual plan will cost S$240 for 12 months also before GST.
Both packages do not include a one-time connection fee to Netlink Trust or the delivery and installation fee of S$53 and S$50, respectively. Extra charges will apply if your home doesn't yet have a Termination Point, and if you need an additional point, refer to this. Simba's broadband plans page can be found here.
Sign-up and Eligible Locations
Interested customers can sign up online by entering their home address to check if it is an area that is ready for Simba Broadband.
At the time of updating the story, Simba broadband is available in certain estates in the east and west of Singapore, such as Changi, Loyang, Pasir Ris, Simei, Tampines, Boon Lay, Jurong and Tengah. Simba says they are rolling out the service progressively.
I probed my teammates to check out their sign-up eligibility based on their residence, and this is what we found:-
- Eligible areas are currently West Coast, Tampines East, West and Holland.
- Not Eligible yet at the time of updating this story: Ang Mo Kio, Hougang, Siglap and Bidadari.
According to its FAQs, Simba Broadband can reach 2.5Gbps download speeds and 1.25Gbps upload speeds, making it ideal for streaming, gaming, remote work, and more. For those wondering about the technical nature of the deployment, Simba will be issuing an Optical Network Terminal (ONT), which can work with any router of your choice. At the moment, their plans will not provide a router to keep subscription prices affordable.
Early Analysis
Simba Broadband’s price of S$20 a month for fibre speeds of 2.5Gbps will certainly place pressure on the current incumbents.
For comparison, M1’s ‘best value plan’ with 1Gbps speed, costs S$40.65 a month for a 24-month plan and S$50.84 a month for a 12-month plan. Singtel’s ‘best value for small homes’ 1Gbps plan will cost $52.90 a month for a 24-month contract. StarHub is offering a 1Gbps plan for 24 months at S$40.06 a month. ViewQwest’s 1Gbps plan costs S$29.99 a month for 10 months before being charged at S$40.99 for 14 months.
Lastly, one other interesting option is WhizComms and their 2.5Gbps plan, which is priced at just S$21.80 per month for a 12-month contract. WhizComms was previously only offering 1Gbps plans but has recently upgraded it to offer 2.5Gbps at the same cost.
