Sharp shows off prototype vertically folding smartphone
Engadget Japan has posted a video of an interesting folding smartphone supposedly made by Sharp, with a vertically folding form factor.
The vertically folding smartphone has a 6.18-inch 3,040 x 1,440 pixels AMOLED display with a fairly large notch. Sharp claims that the device is capable of withstanding 300,000 folding cycles.
According to Engadget Japan, Sharp hopes to commercialize this form factor in a few years. Motorola is also said to be working on a vertically folding clamshell smartphone for the rumored Razr 2019, which is expected to retail for around US$1,500.
