While other phone makers compete to minimise or eliminate the notch from the front panel of their devices, Sharp took the opposite route and added another notch to its latest phone.

The Aquos R2 Compact has two notches; one wraps around the front facing camera while the other wraps around the fingerprint sensor. As it remains unclear whether there will be a software option to hide the notches, consumers may have to live with two notches on the Aquos R2 Compact.

Other specs include a 5.2-inch IGZO display (2,280 x 1,080 pixels), Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, 4GB RAM, Android 9.0 Pie, a rear 22.6MP camera and a 2,500mAh battery.

The Aquos R2 Compact will hit retail shelves in Japan sometime in 2019.
