Earlier in the year, Sharp announced its flagship Aquos R8s pro and their mid-range Sense8, both featuring unique attributes that you should read about if you're not yet familiar with them. Now, Sharp is expanding its Aquos smartphone lineup locally with even more options for the discerning Android phone shopper with its high-end Aquos R9 and the entry-level Aquos Wish4.

Starting with the R9, it is designed for users who prioritise performance and photography. The R9 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 processor with 12GB of RAM. To keep it cool during high-performance tasks, Sharp has incorporated an internal vapour chamber cooling system to help efficiently manage heat.

First seen in the R8s Pro and the Sense8, the Aquos R9 will also include a 6.5-inch FHD+ Pro IGZO OLED display with a variable refresh rate of up to 240Hz and support for Dolby Vision. Other features of the phone include a large 5,000mAh battery, expandable storage of up to 1TB via a Micro SDXC card, and an IPX8 rating.

Camera-wise, the Aquos R9 has a 50MP selfie camera and a dual rear camera system consisting of a 50MP main shooter and a 50MP wide camera. The cameras feature Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) and autofocus capabilities.

For the more budget-conscious consumer, Sharp presents the Aquos wish4. The wish4 is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 700 chipset with 6GB of RAM. The wish4 features a durable 6.6-inch HD+ LCD display and the same large 5,000mAh battery. The wish4 features a plastic build that consists of approximately 60% recycled plastic materials and 100% recycled aluminium for the side keys.

For cameras, the wish4 has an 8MP selfie camera, a 50MP main camera, and a 2MP portrait camera instead of the 50MP wide camera found in the R9. The wish4 will be equipped with Sharp’s Aquos ProPix lite image quality engine with features like AI Auto and Phase-Difference AF that help the camera perform better in night scenes and portraits.

Other user-friendly features include features like Junior Mode and Simple Mode, which support Google Family Links for children and display larger text for seniors, and a nuisance call blocking function.

Both models adhere to US military-grade standards for durability, offering water, dust, and shock resistance. They are also designed by the Miyake Design Studio, blending style with functionality, and will run Android 14 out of the box.

The Aquos R9 and wish4 will be available for purchase starting 29 July for S$1,099 and S$269 respectively

The R9 will be available in two colours: Forest Green and Winter White. On the other hand, the wish4 will be available in three colours: Moonlight White, Cerulean Blue, and Midnight Black.
