Februrary 2017: ASUS provided pricing and availability details

ASUS announced their latest XG-U2008 – a 10-port unmanaged Ethernet switch that’s easy to use. Two of the ports are 10GBase-T ports, which makes the switch compatible with 10Gbps networking speeds. It features a slim, aluminum design with a spun-metal finish, and the switch can be fitted into a standard 19-inch bay (if you get the optional rack-mount kit).

The ASUS XG-U2008 is ASUS’s first 10G-capable switch, and it’s targeted at small and medium businesses, serious gamers, and professional users who need to run bandwidth-intense network applications. With this new network switch, ASUS makes it possible for these users to connect to the latest 10G WAN services, on top of connecting to standard Gigabit Ethernet devices.

The two 10GBase-T ports on the XG-U2008 can deliver up to 10Gbps speeds using standard RJ-45 cables that already support 100/1,000Mbps connections. They also come with three-color LEDs for indicating signal quality, showing cable diagnostic information. Blue lights indicate that the cable supports 10Gbps speeds, while white lights mean 1Gbps operation. Amber lights indicate that the cable is not working. The switch also comes with front-mounted LEDs to indicate network activity for every port.

The eight remaining Gigabit Ethernet ports are for your standard wired networking channels. The switch requires no setup, and it can be active after powering on and connecting said devices. Each port automatically configures itself as a WAN or LAN port, depending on the type of device that’s connected.
