Sennheiser unveils a new improved top-of-the-line model – the HD 800 S

The HD 800 has long been highly sought after by music enthusiasts and audiophiles alike. Known for its brilliant imaging, impressive spatiality and the incredible frequency response from 4Hz-51kHz, the HD 800 made use of innovative absorber technology to neutralize “masking effect” - the acoustic phenomenon that occurs when high-pitched sounds at low volumes and loud sounds at the lower frequency range are played together.

This has been carried over to the new HD 800 S, allowing it to keep even the finest nuances in the audio distinctly audible, allowing you to get nothing less than the full sound. In fact, imaging in the medium to low frequency range has also been further optimized, leading to an even better listening experience overall.

At the heart of it all, is a 56mm transducer with a patented diaphragm that uses an innovative ring design to minimize any distortion that might occur. This keeps the total harmonic distortion down to less than 0.02%, guaranteeing an exceptionally detailed image. No detail was missed out in the design of these headphones either, as even the ear cups are designed so they deliver sound waves to the ear at a slight angle, allowing for natural, spatial sound perception.

Top class materials for a top class headphone

The HD 800 S looks hardly unchanged from the original.

No expense was spared in building these headphones, as Sennheiser used only the highest quality materials that would support the HD 800S’s audio properties. The transducer is embedded in specially manufactured stainless steel gauze, while the headband is made using layers of sound-attenuating plastic and stainless steel. The connectors are also gold-plated for optimum contact, and the ear cups have been designed to direct all the sound into your ear at a slight angle, making for better spatial sound perception.

All of this done meticulously by hand at Sennheiser’s German headquarters in Wedemark, ensuring that you truly get a piece of audio equipment that’s worthy of the “Made in Germany” label. Finally, a symmetrical XLR4 cable has now been included with the HD 800 S to give even better reproduction of sources with symmetrical output.

Emblazoned on the head strap of each headphone is the words "Made in Germany".

The HD 800 S retails for S$2,539 and is available now at the Sennheiser Concept Store at Marina Square and the following retailers: ConnectIT, Jaben and Stereo.
