Sennheiser's debuts CX Plus True Wireless with active noise cancelation at just S$259

Note: This article was first published on 21st September 2021, and the earbuds are now available in retail. Additionally, there's now a Special Edition version with more info appended below.

Meet the next mainstream earbuds that Sennheiser wants you to own - the CX Plus True Wireless.

Sennheiser is on a roll to ensure all users can get to experience the company's famed sound signature through their audio gear. Building on the momentum of the recently launched S$199 CX True Wireless that was the company's most affordable true wireless earbuds, today, Sennheiser is releasing an enhanced version - the CX Plus True Wireless.

By now, you would also realise that the ill-positioned CX400BT has been completely replaced by these more affordable and more capable newcomers. Still sporting the same understated and simple design that 'locks and twists' in place to have a good fit in your ear, the CX Plus True Wireless adds active noise cancelling (ANC) that was once the domain of its premium Momentum True Wireless 2 earbuds, and beyond Qualcomm aptX, it now supports aptX Adaptive.

If you've been looking for high-res wireless audio capability, the Qualcomm's aptX Adaptive supported devices are the way to go. It's currently supported on several mid and high-end Android-based phones launched last year, so there's undoubtedly a wide compatibility platform. The new aptX Adaptive standard perseveres to deliver high-quality audio even in crowded RF environments by means of adaptive bit-rate utilisation. Furthermore, low latency delivery will be sure to keep you engaged in the streaming video or game of your choice without interruption or intervention by understanding the application used.

Everything else about the new CX Plus True Wireless is similar to the recently launched CX True Wireless, like its great sound signature, equalizer options, a good companion app, touch controls, IPX4 splash resistance, Transparent Hearing, 7mm True Response drivers that have been optimised for fidelity in a small housing.

You can also expect long battery life as Sennheiser says the CX Plus manages 8 hours on its own and a further 16 hours through its charging case. That's a total of 24 hours of uptime combined. You'll also get a quick charging capability where 20 minutes of charge time helps you press on for another hour of utilisation. Given the good battery life uptime when we reviewed CX True Wireless, we reckon this will live up to the same promise.

The new Sennheiser CX Plus True Wireless is priced at S$259 and will be available in Singapore from 28th September 2021 on the Sennheiser Webshop, the Sennheiser Brand Store at Marina Square, and all authorised retailers. You can keep a lookout for it on the Sennheiser Flagship Store on Lazada.

As if the Sennheiser CX Plus True Wireless wasn't enough, Sennheiser added a Special Edition version of it, making its name really unwieldy but only having one difference - a brushed matte surface finish on the touch-sensitive external-facing sides of the earbuds. We're not quite sure if it's even worthwhile since it's far from mimicking a Momentum True Wireless 2 earpiece in appearance.

Officially priced at S$279, it offers all the same beloved features and capabilities of the CX Plus reported above that sell for S$20 less, but with a little more refined and elevated look without overspending on the earbuds.
