Isaac Asimov's seminal Foundation series is returning to Apple TV+ for a second season in July. The sci-fi series is an ambitious one, spanning hundreds of years and featuring a sprawling cast of characters, each of whom plays a pivotal role in Hari Seldon's master plan to reduce the upcoming dark age from thirty thousand years to a single millennium.

The first season already diverged significantly from the books, but the world-building and performances from the cast were no less impressive. At the same time, there were always questions about how its tortuous story would translate from the page to the screen, and Season 2 continues to demonstrate the epic scale of the series with yet another massive time jump.

It is set more than a century after the season 1 finale, and tension continues to mount throughout the galaxy. The Empire continues its inexorable unraveling, while a vengeful queen plots to destroy it from within. Meanwhile, Hari, Gaal, and Salvor discover a colony of Mentalics with psionic abilities that threaten to alter psychohistory itself.

The Foundation has also entered its religious phase, promulgating the Church of Seldon throughout the Outer Reach and inciting the Second Crisis - war with Empire.

Ultimately, Foundation chronicles the stories of four crucial individuals transcending space and time as they overcome deadly crises, shifting loyalties, and complicated relationships that will ultimately determine the fate of humanity.
