Seagate's newest portable external drives are more stylish than ever

Lacie Mobile Drive and Mobile SSD.

Seagate's range of portable external storage solutions has been thoroughly updated at CES 2019.

From LaCie, we have the new Mobile Drive and Mobile SSD. The former uses a traditional spinning HDD while the latter uses an SSD.

More importantly, the two have "diamond-cut" all-aluminum enclosures which mimics the look and feel of Apple's notebooks. Both also connect via USB-C.

The Mobile Drive is available in two finishes - Moon Silver and Space Grey - and is available in 1TB, 2TB, 4TB, and 5TB capacities.

The Mobile SSD supports transfer speeds of up to 540MB/s which indicates that it is likely using a SATA-based SSD within. It is only available in Space Grey and comes in 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB capacities.

New to the Backup Plus family is the new Backup Plus Ultra Touch drives which feature woven fabric enclosures. The Backup Plus Ultra Touch is only available in 1TB and 2TB capacities and it comes with password protection, hardware AES 256 encryption, and automatic backup.

Seagate has also updated the Backup Plus Slim and Backup Plus Portable with new aluminum finishes. The Backup Plus Slim is available in 1TB and 2TB capacities while the Backup Plus Portable can be had in 4TB and 5TB capacities.

The Backup Plus Slim and Portable also come with backup utilities but lack the hardware encryption of the Backup Plus Ultra Touch.

Local availability and pricing have yet to be determined but we will update this article once we have details.
