Marking Seagate's foray into the end-consumer SSD market is the 600 SSD series, this 2.5-inch drive is available in different thickness; 5mm and 7mm. Seagate seems to be have taken a leaf out from the book of Western Digital who announced their own slim SSDs in January this year. The 600 SSD sports a SATA 6Gbps interface, and will be available at 120-, 240-, and 480GB capacities. According to their specifications, the drives are rated to perform up to 550MBps and 450MBps in sequential reading and writing, and these numbers put them in direct competition with the Corsair Neutron GTX SSD that was our high-end SSD shootout winner in January this year.

For the entry-level business solutions, Seagate has introduced the 600 SSD Pro that supports the SATA 6Gbps interface. It boasts of slightly better rated performances than its non-professional counterpart; however, it sets itself apart from the former due to its touted end-to-end data protection, coupled with the company's claims of its ability of being able to maximize IOPS/watt value while reducing energy costs. This series also offers drives that come in a wider range of capacities from 100- to 480GB.

Seagate has refreshed its enterprise lineup with the Seagate 1200 SSD and the X8 Accelerator PCIe SSD. The former is a SAS device that supports the latest dual-port 12GB/s interface speed, marking a 100 per cent improvement over the previous generation 6GB/s standard, without relinquishing support for it. The enterprise-level SSD comes in capacities that range from 200- to 800GB and is either 1.8- or 2.5-inch thick.

Last of all, the X8 Accelerator is in the form of a PCIe 2.0 low-profile expansion card that is targeted at servers running database and virtualization applications. It offers performance rated at up to 1.1 million IOPS and access latencies under 20μs and is available in capacities from 550GB to 2.2TB. It has a 5-year warranty with an endurance rating of 33PB (petabyte), which is approximately 34,000TB. There are no details with regards to the local availability of these new devices.
