Update: Island Lights has been extended to 10 Jan 2021, and bookings can now be made for up to 8 people per slot from 28 December onwards in view of the Phase 3 restrictions.

Hey, I'm pretty sure many of us wish (or have wished) that Singapore wasn't parked so close to the Equator. That way, we could have a fancy four-season cycle like many other countries. Well, we do actually have four types of seasons if you really think about it - hot, monsoon, Great Singapore Sale and holiday.

Humour aside, we're already at the tail end of what is undoubtedly an unforgettable year, even if it's mostly for the wrong reasons. However, that doesn't mean we can't end off on a positive note, and it looks like both the Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) and Sanrio are on the same optimistic boat.

To celebrate our first steps into the new decade, the company has once again set up their dazzling Island Light displays along Siloso Beach on Sentosa, featuring popular characters such as Hello Kitty, Pompompurin, My Melody and Little Twin Stars for a total of seven light-up displays. The "exhibition" of sorts will kick off on 12 Dec and last all the way till 3 Jan - more information about the displays and the exhibition itself can be found here.

However, do take note that interested parties will have to book their slots in advance, and each group is limited to a maximum of five people to facilitate social distancing. There are three available timeslots to choose from daily, each lasting an hour:

  • 7.30pm - 8.30pm
  • 8.30pm - 9.30pm
  • 9.30pm - 10.30pm

What else is there to do?

On the side, visitors can also book slots for a virtual escape room experience titled Fort Siloso - The Quest for Lost Gold between 14 Dec and 10 Jan. Developed in tandem with escape room specialist Lockdown.SG, the escape room features two game modes for booking.

The first of these is a "facilitated" mode called the Lost Treasure of Sarang Limau, which will be conducted by a Game Master via video-conferencing. Players have to find the "treasure" before the timer runs out, and the top three teams each week will stand to win Sentosa Fun Passes worth $60 (one for each member). Each ticket costs $20, and can be purchased directly from this link.

Meanwhile, the second mode is a relaxed "free play" mode called Finders Keepers, which focuses on letting players explore a virtual recreation of Fort Siloso and the history of Singapore's most prominent coastal fort.
