While other Android handset makers have embraced the notch design, Samsung still refused to adopt it for its Galaxy smartphones. Well, it seems that the Korean company has a good reason for doing so.

Spotted by Twitter user Ice Universe, Samsung unveiled new AMOLED display technology at the recent OLED Forum conference in China. The upcoming display technology is said to be able to hide features which currently require display cutouts or bezel space.

The photo taken of the slide during the conference shows certain features such as an in-display fingerprint sensor, sound, haptics and an under-panel sensor which could be masked by the new display technology.

The new display technology could debut on the upcoming Galaxy S10 models in 2019 although it is unclear whether it can support facial recognition sensors. Since most handset manufacturers purchase displays from Samsung, it is likely that this upcoming display technology can finally put an end to notches in smartphones.
