Samsung's new AI assistant on the Galaxy S8 can support 7 to 8 languages

Samsung's new AI assistant (codenamed Bixby) on the Galaxy S8 is shaping up to be one of the most powerful platforms this year.

According to ETNews, Bixby is said to support 7 to 8 languages at launch which include English, Korean and Chinese. In comparison, Google Assistant currently only supports five languages which are English, German, Hindi, Japanese and Portuguese. Supporting Chinese language would make the Galaxy S8 more appealing to the Chinese consumers, a market that Samsung cannot afford to lose out to its rivals.

Little information is available on Bixby. Samsung confirmed that it will "allow customers to use third-party services seamlessly" and let developers attach or upload services to the platform. It reportedly can control all native apps on the Galaxy S8 including the rear camera where it can do visual search and optical character recognition (OCR).
