Samsung's Black Pearl Galaxy S7 Edge is available this Saturday

Samsung's Jet Black Pearl Galaxy S7 Edge will be launching in Singapore this Saturday. Other than the new color, the Black Pearl variant also sports a higher 128GB internal storage capacity compared to other S7 Edge models released here, which only have 32GB internal storage.

Compared to the Black Onyx color that's been available since launch, it's a much deeper monochrome black, without the slight tinge of blue present on the Black Onyx.

While Apple had to develop a "9-step anodization and polishing process" to achieve its glossy Jet Black finish, Samsung's solution is a little simpler: Gorilla Glass 4 on top of a glossy piano black finish.

Side-by-side, the finishes on the back of both phones do look indistinguishable though - although it's worth noting though that unlike the Jet Black iPhone 7, only the front and rear of the Black Pearl S7 Edge is glossy black - the aluminum frame around the edges of the phone remains matte black.

We're unsure how well the Black Pearl model will hold up to scratches, but as the rear is protected by Gorilla Glass 4, it should be a little more scratch-resistant than Apple's finish. That doesn't save it from smudges and fingerprints though.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge in Black Pearl will be available from 7th January for S$1,198 at all local telcos, selected consumer electronic stores, authorized retailers, and Samsung Experience Stores.
