Samsung will start supplying OLED panels to Apple from next year

According to The Korea Herald, Samsung has agreed to a deal that will see it supplying OLED panels to Apple from next year.

The report says that Samsung will supply Apple with around 100 million units of 5.5-inch panels annually. The deal is also said to be worth about US$2.59 billion.

Samsung is the world's leader in displays under 9-inches with a market share of around 23%. In second place is Japan Display with 16%, and in third is LG display with 14%.

Though Samsung and Apple have been embroiled in numerous patent battles, Samsung is still one of Apple's biggest suppliers of components. It provides chips, memory and displays for Apple's range of iPhone and iPad products.

In light of this news, we can expect to see iPhones fitted with OLED panels very soon. In fact, some analysts also believe that thanks to the benefits of OLED displays, Apple could be giving the iPhone a major design overhaul and refresh in the very near future.
