Samsung just unveiled two new Android tablets just one week before the launch event for the Galaxy Note9. The two Android tablets are the premium Galaxy Tab S4 and the affordable Galaxy Tab A 10.5.

Positioned as a new 2-in-1 Android tablet, the Galaxy Tab S4 is geared towards consumers who are looking to do more on the go. Samsung is also bringing DeX to the tablet for the first time; it allows users to switch from the Android interface to a desktop experience when the Galaxy Tab S4 is connected to the optional Book Cover keyboard or launched from the Quick Panel.

The Samsung DeX offers desktop-like features such as multiple windows for Android apps, Microsoft Office suite, drag and drop between apps, and the using of keyboard shortcuts and commands. The Samsung DeX can also be extended to an external monitor with a compatible HDMI to USB-C multi-port adapter if more screen space is required.

The S Pen, which is bundled with the Galaxy Tab S4, allows users to take notes on the go even when the display is not turned on (Screen-Off Memo feature) and send personalized texts via Samsung Live Messages.

The Galaxy Tab S4 comes with a 10.5-inch Super AMOLED display (2,560 x 1,600 pixels), a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 mobile platform (yes, that's last year's flagship), 4GB RAM, 64GB/256GB internal storage options with microSD support up to 400GB, a 7,300mAh battery which supports fast charging and up to 16 hours of video playback on a single charge, a USB 3.1 Type-C port, Android 8.1 Oreo, 4 speakers tuned by AKG, Dolby Atmos, LTE CAT 16 support, a rear 13MP camera, an 8MP front-facing camera and an iris scanner.

Thanks to the new iris scanner (also present in flagship Samsung smartphones like the S9 and the Note9), the new Galaxy Tab S4  no longer has a physical home button or fingerprint sensor; unlocking the Galaxy Tab S4 now requires iris and face scanning. Alternatively, the standard passcode authentication method is still available. From an aesthetic point of view, without the home button/fingerprint sensor, the Galaxy Tab S4 now has equally sized bezels all around the screen. This means you could use the Tab S4 upside down and it would still look and feel natural (as opposed to having the button/fingerprint sensor stick out on top of the display).

The Verge states that the 64GB model is priced at US$650 (~S$885) and the 256GB model costs US$750 (~S$1,021).

On the other end of the market segment, Samsung has the Galaxy Tab A 10.5 to meet the needs of consumers who are looking for high-quality entertainment features at a budget-friendly price.

The Galaxy Tab A 10.5 has a TFT LCD display (1,920 x 1,200 pixels), a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 mobile platform, 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage space with microSD support up to 400GB, Android 8.1 Oreo, a 7,300mAh battery, USB 2.0 Type-C port, an 8MP rear camera, a 5MP front-facing camera and LTE CAT 6 support. It is also available in Wi-Fi only and LTE configurations.

GSMArena claims that the Galaxy Tab A 10.5 will be priced at €330 (~S$525) for the Wi-Fi only model and €390 (~S$620) for the LTE model.
