As reported by Dutch website GSM Help Desk, Samsung today took the wraps off its latest Android tablets - the Galaxy Tab S2.

Available in 9.7-inch and 8.0-inch versions with Wi-Fi only and LTE options, the Galaxy Tab S2 gets a shot at the crown for the world's thinnest tablet at just 5.6mm thin! Both the 10.1-inch Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet and the 8.0-inch Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact now seem bulky at 6.4mm.

Like the Galaxy Tab A series, the Galaxy Tab S2 comes with a display aspect ratio of 4:3 which leads to a more squarish design than its predecessors. This also means that the Galaxy Tab S2 is geared towards reading e-books and magazines.

Both tablets sport resolutions of 2,048 x 1,536 pixels on Super AMOLED panels, and are powered by an octa-core processor (Quad 1.9GHz + Quad 1.3GHz) backed by 3GB RAM. Both tablets come with storage options of 32GB and 64GB supported with a microSD memory card (accepts memory cards of up to 128GB).

Other specs include an 8-megapixel autofocus rear camera, a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera, Android 5.0 Lollipop, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, MIMO (2.4GHz/5GHz), Bluetooth 4.1 BLE and a touch-enabled fingerprint sensor. The Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 weighs 389g (Wi-Fi) / 392g (LTE) and has a 5,870mAh battery while the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 weighs 265g (Wi-Fi) / 272g (LTE) and has a 4,000mAh battery.

Both tablets are slated to be available in global markets from next month in two colors - black and white. Pricing has yet to be revealed.
