Samsung unveiled its image sensor brand ISOCELL at the 2017 Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai. It consists of four sub-brands which are ISOCELL Bright, ISOCELL Fast, ISOCELL Slim and ISOCELL Dual which are targeted at different market needs.

Image sensors under ISOCELL Bright are designed to take brighter and sharper images with high color fidelity and reduced noise in low light conditions. ISOCELL Fast sensors are able to deliver fast autofocus on still or moving subjects even in challenging light conditions.

ISOCELL Slim sensors have the smallest pixel sizes available in the market at 0.9-1.0um, hence they are a perfect fit for offering high quality images on slim devices. ISOCELL Dual sensors are more versatile as they can be mixed and matched in several combinations to offer features that consumers want.

“Samsung ISOCELL is a brand that represents the essence of our leading pixel technologies. We expect the ISOCELL brand to help consumers easily acknowledge and confide in camera performance as well as overall quality of the device,” said Ben Hur, Vice President of System LSI marketing at Samsung Electronics. “With our advanced image sensor technologies, Samsung will continue to bring innovation to cameras used in smartphones and other applications.”

It is likely that we would see ISOCELL Dual sensors being deployed on the upcoming Galaxy Note8. For those who are not aware, ISOCELL sensors have been used in Samsung's smartphones since 2013. Samsung's ISOCELL technology helps to reduce color crosstalk of neighboring pixels by adding physical barriers between each pixel, hence it has higher light sensitivity and more effective controlling of the collection of photons.
