Samsung today (13 October 2022) announced its expanded partnership with Google to make smart home devices more interoperable.

The Korean electronics brand said that Samsung Galaxy users (phone and tablet) would be able to onboard Matter-compatible devices to both Samsung SmartThings and Google Home ecosystems “in the coming months”.

Samsung also gave a brief description of what to expect from pairing Matter devices with its SmartThings ecosystem. Matter devices on Google Home will be given a choice to also onboard to SmartThings and vice versa. The smart home user can then control these devices on the SmartThings app or via a Google Nest Hub.

According to Samsung's press statement, a key perk is Matter’s “multi-admin” capabilities that allow smart devices to be connected to multiple ecosystems and apps, conferring greater control and flexibility over their connected appliances.

More information will be provided on the SmartThings landing page as Samsung rolls out the update progressively.
