Samsung SDI factory in China caught fire due to faulty batteries
Samsung SDI, a supplier of faulty batteries to the Galaxy Note7 last year, reported a minor fire at one of its factories in China.
According to Bloomberg and South China Morning Post, "a minor fire" broke out on Wednesday morning which was put out by 19 fire engines and more than 110 firemen.
The firefighting authority reportedly stated that the cause of the fire was due to lithium-ion batteries and some semi-manufactured battery products. A Samsung SDI spokesperson told Bloomberg that the fire took place at the waste depository, hence it did not affect production of batteries.
Just a few weeks ago, Samsung revealed the findings of the investigations on its explosive Galaxy Note7 where flaws in battery manufacturing and design were highlighted as the main causes. Since then, Samsung has implemented several preventive measures such as an 8-point Battery Safety Check to enhance product safety for upcoming devices. SDI's batteries are likely to be used in the Galaxy S8 phones.
