Samsung’s New Video-on-Demand Service to Bring Specially Curated Content to Subscribers (Updated)

Samsung Electronics Co Ltd is preparing to launch a video-on-demand service app in Q3 2014.

Tentatively titled “Project Glued”, the app will bring specially curated content which goes beyond your usual run-of-the-mill shows to Samsung users. All content will be available in HD quality, and users can choose to either stream or download their shows. Programming will initially be limited to U.S. and the U.K. programmes, and will be available on Samsung smartphones and tablets at launch (availability for Samsung Smart TVs is to be advised).

With Project Glued, customers will be allowed to watch the first episode of every TV series for free before they decide to purchase. And if they wish to complete the entire series, they can rent it at prices starting from US $6.50 (about SGD8) for eight days.

One unique feature of Project Glued is called “Gift”, and this feature allows customers to share access to purchased TV shows – even full seasons – with up to six people over a 24 hour period.

Here’s a list of devices that will support the app at launch:

The video-on-demand app will be available on GALAXY Smartphones and tablet devices, including the Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4, Galaxy Grand 2, Galaxy Note PRO, Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition, Galaxy Note 8.0, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Tab PRO, Galaxy Tab 3 and Galaxy Mega.

 Update:

Samsung confirms that even though the free app will be available on both Google Play and Samsung Apps, both Project Glued and the Gift feature will only work on Samsung devices, so this is a Samsung exclusive service.
