Samsung rumoured to drop the Galaxy S24+ from the lineup in 2024

Samsung might not release the Plus variant of the Galaxy S24 in 2024.

Korean publication TheElec claims there are only two models, "DM1" and "DM3" projects for the 2024 lineup, which corresponds to the base and Ultra models. There is no indication of a "DM2" project in the pipeline, which suggests Samsung could be dropping the Plus model from the Galaxy S24 lineup.

Based on shipment numbers from Gfk, TheElec speculates that poor sales of the Galaxy S22+ could be a reason why Samsung is skipping the Plus model in 2024. According to Gfk figures, the Galaxy S22+ accounted for 17% of the Galaxy S22 shipments in 2022 while the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Ultra constituted for 38% and 45% of the shipments respectively. Samsung is also believed to be streamlining the Galaxy A series with the Galaxy A2x series likely to be removed.

2022 had been a disappointing year for Samsung. The South Korean company forecasted its lowest quarterly profits in 8 years with the memory and mobile businesses affected badly by weak demand and  "prolonged macroeconomic issues".

Fnnews reported last month that Samsung failed to hit sales goals for the Galaxy S22 Series and Galaxy Z devices. The company plans to sell 270 million phones this year with a new strategy of selling as many entry-level devices as possible to selling more premium devices.
