Samsung clarifies on the sales numbers for the Galaxy Fold (Update)
Updated on 15 December: Samsung has clarified that it hasn't actually sold one million Galaxy Fold units. A company spokesperson said Young Sohn might have confused the figure with the company's initial sales target for the year.

There's a million Samsung Galaxy Fold users in the world right now.
Samsung Electronic's President Young Sohn revealed this figure at TechCrunch Disrupt Berlin while explaining the company's process of launching new products to get feedback.
“And I think that the point is, we’re selling [a] million of these products,” Sohn said. “There’s a million people that want to use this product at $2,000.”
Sohn remarked that if the Galaxy Fold was kept in the labs, Samsung wouldn't get the feedback it needed to fuel growth through innovation. He also shared that Samsung is comfortable selling a US$2,000 device that is actually a beta device.
The initial delay of the Galaxy Fold's launch helped Samsung gather a lot of feedback to improve the durability of the foldable phone. The Galaxy Fold was re-launched on 18 September and has a retail price tag of S$3,088. Despite the jaw-dropping price tag, the Galaxy Fold was sold out on the first day of launch in Singapore. It was back in stock weeks later and is now available in more retail locations.
The positive reception of the Galaxy Fold appears to have encouraged Samsung to proceed with its second foldable phone and set a goal to sell more foldable phones next year.
Rumoured to be more affordable and thinner than the Galaxy Fold, the upcoming foldable phone is said to have a 6.7-inch display that can shrink to a pocketable square when folded inwards like a clamshell. The second foldable phone is expected to be launched alongside the Galaxy S11 lineup in February 2020.
