Samsung reportedly secured deal to supply OLED panels for future Apple iPhones

After months of testing OLED panels, Apple appears to have decided on making Samsung its chief supplier of flexible OLED panels for future iPhones.

According to Electronic Times, Samsung reportedly signed a deal with Apple to supply the OLED panels. The South Korean company is said to be investing US$7.47 billion over the next few years to increase production capacity.

This year alone, Samsung is expected to invest up to US$3.32 billion on its manufacturing plants to ensure a monthly production rate of 30,000 to 45,000 panels. More funds will be devoted next year to increase the production capacity to a maximum of 90,000 panels per month.

While nothing is official yet, the first iPhones to sport OLED displays are expected to land in 2018 which means that the next two generations of iPhones will continue to use LCD displays.
