Aside from announcing several new hardware at the Galaxy Unpacked August 2020, Samsung also made a major announcement regarding software update.
The South Korean company promises to "support three generations of Android updates" for the Galaxy phones. However, there are some caveats that consumers have to take note. In a statement to The Verge, Samsung confirms the guarantee "applies to S, N and Z series". A Series will support until hardware allows".
In addition, Samsung specifically used the term "generations" instead of "OS versions" or "years" which should give the phone maker some flexibility when it comes to software updates.
To its credit, there have been some improvements in offering Android updates from Samsung. The company rolled out the One UI 2.1 update for the Galaxy Note9 and Galaxy S9 last month. It also published Android 10 update roadmap for some phone models earlier this year.
