Samsung just launched SmartThings Find, a new service to help users find select Galaxy phones, tablets, smartwatches and earbuds.

Using a combination of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and ultra-wideband (UWB), SmartThings Find offers integrated map directions and the ability to "ring" a lost device to find it more quickly. The exact location of the device will be shown on a map and once the owner is near the lost device, he/she can choose to have the device "ring" or locate it using the AR-based Search Nearby function.

Galaxy users can register for the service and opt in to securely use their Galaxy phone or tablet to help others locate their lost devices. A lost device which has been offline for 30 minutues will emit a BLE signal that can be detected by other devices. If the device is reported as lost via SmartThings Find, nearby Galaxy phones or tablets can alert the Samsung server about the location and this in turn will notify the owner.

SmartThings Find will be released as a software update from today for Galaxy phones and tablets running Android 8 or later.
