Samsung introduces optimised OLED display for 5G smartphones

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G has the best display in the market at the moment according to DisplayMate.

Following the commercialisation of ultra-thin glass (UTG) cover for foldable phones, Samsung introduced an optimised OLED display for 5G smartphones. The South Korean company claims the new OLED display for 5G smartphones has earned global recognition for reduced blue-light emission and lower power consumption.

Swiss certification and testing company SGS awarded it the "Eye Care Display" certification as the newly developed display emits 6.5% blue light, which is significantly lower than the 7.5% level of Samsung's OLED panels released last year.

Underwriters Laboratories (UL), a globally-recognised testing agency, shared that power consumption of the new display has dropped by 15% during its testings where people were taking photos, reading news and watching entertainment content.

Samsung is the current market leader in mobile OLED displays and this new display is set to entrench its leadership position in the coming years.

“5G is expanding into a rapidly commercialized ecosystem where consumers can be connected to 8K as well as 4K streaming services, cloud-based gaming content and infotainment networks, increasing mobile device usage everywhere,” said Jee-ho Baek, vice president of the mobile display strategic marketing team at Samsung Display. “Our 5G-optimized OLED display is taking the lead in the 5G era with its crystal clear imagery, distinguished designs, economical power consumption and increasingly eye-protective functionality,” he added.
