Samsung ready to sell the ultra thin glass of the Galaxy Z Flip to other OEMs

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip uses the ultra thin glass for its foldable display.

Samsung is ready to mass produce a glass cover for foldable devices.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Samsung Display has commercialised the ultra thin glass (UTG) cover for other foldable devices. The UTG, which is also used for the Galaxy Z Flip, is about 30 micrometers thin.

Despite its thinness, Samsung claims it is more durable and scratch resistant than plastic layers. The company added that the UTG can withstand at least 200,000 folds.

Samsung has been working with glass substrate maker Dowoo Insys Co since 2013 to manufacture the UTG. It has also filed trademark registrations for the UTG in 38 countries.
