Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G is rumoured to use the faster Snapdragon 865 Plus processor

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G is rumoured to use the faster Snapdragon 865 Plus processor

If the latest rumour is to be believed, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G won’t be just a standard Galaxy Z Flip slapped with a 5G modem.

According to Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the Galaxy Z Flip 5G (model SM-F7070 in China, SM-F707 elsewhere) will also use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 Plus processor, with its prime Kryo core running at a clock speed of 3.09GHz. Also onboard is 8GB RAM.

Despite the faster processor and 5G, the new phone is said to not have a bigger battery than the regular Z Flip. Instead of the current 3,300mAh capacity pooled from two cells (2,370 + 930mAh, one in each half of the foldable phone), the 5G Z Flip will have a 3,204mAh battery made up of 2,500 and 704mAh packs. 15W fast wired charging is also supported, but that’s nothing new.

Otherwise, the Galaxy Z Flip 5G is reusing many components from the LTE version, including the 6.7-inch, 2,636 x 1,080-pixel foldable AMOLED display and 1.05-inch, 300 x 112-pixel external cover display.

Digital Chat Station also claims the new phone has a 12MP selfie camera and dual 12 + 10MP rear cameras, which could be a typo because the standard Z Flip has a 10MP selfie camera and dual 12MP rear cameras.

Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Flip 5G on Aug 5, alongside the Galaxy Note 20 series and the Galaxy Fold 2. Retail availability of all three phones are expected on Aug 21, though I don’t think Samsung Singapore would be in a hurry to bring the 5G Z Flip here.
