Samsung smartwatches may take a new direction with new Galaxy Watch FE model numbers surfacing

Samsung Galaxy Watch5 Pro, Galaxy Watch6, and Galaxy Watch6 Classic, from our reviews.

The Samsung Galaxy smartwatches might have a new tier to address a wider range of Android smartwatch users.

According to Android Headlines, the publication spotted new Samsung smartwatch model numbers in an IMEI database, alleging that these products are the global, U.S., and South Korean versions of an unreleased Samsung Galaxy Watch FE.

There are currently no known details about these upcoming FE smartwatches, other than the three model numbers: SM-R866F, SM-R866U, SM-R866N. The last letters in these names (F, U, and N) refer to their territorial release, representing global, the U.S., and South Korea versions, respectively.

FE, in Samsung’s dictionary, refers to “Fan Edition”. The brand designates certain high-end or flagship-tier devices with FE variants in a bid to lower their sticker price while retaining their core features, such as the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE (review here), the Galaxy Tab S9 FE series tablets, and entry-level earbuds Galaxy Buds FE.

Come to think of it, the smartwatch is one of the last consumer products by Samsung that could use an FE variant, too. The Galaxy Watch series currently has standard, Pro, and Classic variants, which vary in watch face dimensions, battery capacities, and features like GPS.
