Following the main Galaxy S22 series launch, the Galaxy Unpacked event also debuted Samsung's new premium tablets - the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 series

And unlike the previous Tab S7 series, but in line with the Galaxy S22 series, there will be three new models: the Tab S8, Tab S8+, and Tab S8 Ultra

That's right, there's now a new SKU with an "Ultra" nomenclature that boasts the largest screen ever for a conventional tablet at 14.6 inches (2,960 x 1,848 pixels WQXGA+ resolution) and it's a Super AMOLED display with dynamic refresh rate support up to 120Hz.

If you thought the Galaxy Tab S7+ with its 12.4-inch screen was looking close to laptop screen sizes, then the new Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra has certainly arrived to convince you that it's ready to take on traditional notebooks. It also boasts Samsung’s slimmest bezels ever on a tablet at 6.3mm thin. Meanwhile, the Tab S8+ and Tab S8 have screen sizes similar to their namesake predecessors with 12.4-inch and 11-inch screens respectively, down to screen types used. Here's how they stack up:-

The add-on keyboard is actually backlit so using the Tab S8 Ultra as a laptop replacement isn't a far stretch.

To prevent any damage befalling the Tab S8 series, the same Armor Aluminium used in the S22 smartphone series is found here too. It is now 30% more resistant to scratches and nearly 40% less prone to bending than the Galaxy Tab S7.

A key highlight of these tablets is strong productivity and creativity support and to enable this, all the Galaxy Tab S8 models will come with an S Pen and have additional purchasable accessories like a keyboard folio. Like the S Pen that comes with the S22 Ultra, it has a latency of just 2.8ms (down by 30%), thanks to AI-based assistance for a more responsive experience. Handily, the S Pen can be stored on the back of the Tab S8 series.

Since productivity is key, their large screens can be easily split into multiple, resizable windows so multitasking can be done without needing to toggle between apps.

Ready to lay back and be entertained on these tablets? You'll love the sound coming from its quad-stereo speakers, tuned by sound specialist AKG. They've historically fared really well on Samsung's previous S-series tablets and you can expect the same on the  Tabs S8, now featuring Dolby Atmos support for immersive audio when you watch your streaming content that has Atmos audio.

Under the hood, all the Galaxy Tab S8 models will be powered by the 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, and running Android 12 with Samsung's One UI Tab 4.

While all three will support additional storage in the form of a microSD card up to 1TB in capacity, the S8 and S8+ will come in 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, while the S8 Ultra pumps the RAM to 12GB. While there are many more SKUs available overseas, Singapore will only receive the 256GB storage option.

Besides processing and storage aspects, these tablets will allow you to record video up to 4K resolutions, and enjoy enhanced video calls thanks to its 12MP ultra-wide dual-lens front camera (dual on the Ultra variant, single on the others) with tri-mic noise cancellation to reduce noise reduction by up to 50%. Likewise, you can also consider using the rear camera setup consisting of a 13MP main camera and 6MP ultra-wide lens as you see fit.

Battery capacities come in 8,000mAh, 10,090mAh (the same as previous versions), and 11,200mAh to give you up to 15 hours of video playback. And the 45W super-fast charging gets you back to 100% in less than 80 minutes. In fact, Samsung claims that the Tab S8 can even be used to charge an S22 smartphone.

The Tab S8 and S8+ will come in two colours (Graphite, Pink Gold) while the Tab S8 Ultra will only come in Graphite.
