Samsung Galaxy S8 could come with a pressure-sensitive display

The Galaxy S8 may be the first Samsung device to come with a pressure-sensitive display.

According to The Investor, multiple industry sources claim that Samsung is considering to equip the Galaxy S8 with a pressure-sensitive display although full adoption is only expected in one or two years. An unnamed senior executive at Samsung's component unit reportedly said that the company is working on pressure-sensitive technology for use "in the near future".

As of today, the Apple iPhone 6s/7, Huawei Mate S and Xiaomi Mi5s deploy pressure-sensitive technologies on their displays. More Android vendors are expected to jump on the bandwagon thanks to the availability of discrete touch controller solutions from Synaptics. For Samsung, it has filed a patent titled "Touch Input Apparatus and Electronic Device Having Thereof" in April 2014 which describes how its pressure-sensitive technology will work.
