Samsung Galaxy S5 Rumored to be Powered by 64-Bit Exynos 6 Processor

The Apple iPhone 5S is the world's first and only smartphone at the moment to be powered by a 64-bit processor.

The next generation of Samsung Galaxy S flagship smartphone will be powered by a 64-bit processor.

According to South Korean news site Digital Daily, the Galaxy S5 will run on a new Exynos 6 processor developed by Samsung. The news site claims that the processor will utilize a 14nm process and implement ARM big.LITTLE architecture where there are low-power Cortex-A53 cores and more powerful Cortex-A57 cores to handle workloads of different intensities.

The Korea Times reported last month that Samsung’s mobile business chief Shin Jong-kyun said that the next generation of Galaxy-branded smartphones will have 64-bit processing capability. 64-bit processors can process twice the amount of data compared to the previous generations of chipsets. 64-bit processors also can handle code for more demanding apps such as graphics-intensive games.

Korean media outlets reported a week ago that they have received information from sources within Samsung that the Galaxy S5 will be announced in January next year. The disappointing sales of the Galaxy S4 forced Samsung to bring forward its announcement.
