Samsung Galaxy S4 Plagued by Battery Bloating, Draining and Overheating Issues

German and local batches of Samsung Galaxy S4 units appear to be plagued by battery issues.

According to TrustedReviews, a “trusted source working at an operator" told German site MobiFlip that many Galaxy S4 users in Germany are reporting bloated batteries and draining issues. As the Galaxy S4 is in the market for about six months, it's troubling to know that such battery issues are emerging so soon.

TrustedReviews - “A trusted contact who is sitting right at the source with a German provider confirms that the current confirmations are due to a faulty battery with the Galaxy S4,” the German reports have stated.

TrustedReviews apparently received an official statement from Samsung stating that the company is "aware of this issue, which has affected a limited number of customers.” The company advises all affected customers to bring their devices to the nearest Samsung Electronics service centre, where they will receive a replacement battery for free.

We did a check on our HardwareZone forum and uncovered several users' reports of similar issues. Forum member shiryo posted a question on 29 August to other Galaxy S4 users on whether it is possible to change a bloated battery at the Samsung Service Centre. A fellow Galaxy S4 user, yyongiee responded to the query and said that the replacement could be done as he or she had done it a week ago.

Forum member ting posted on 14 September that the local Samsung service centre replaced the bloated battery. Another forum member, makav31i posted on 27 September that the battery in the Galaxy S4 got "abit bloated" and the battery percentage suddenly dropped from 20% to 0%. In the post, makav31i mentioned that the battery had been replaced twice.

We've reached out to Samsung Mobile Singapore to check on the extent of this issue. We will update this section when we get the information.
