Fitness trackers may feel long in the tooth in an age of glittering smart watches, but they’re still some of the most reliable wearable tech on the market.
Samsung has quietly announced that its new Galaxy Fit and Galaxy Fit e fitness trackers will be on sale in Singapore this coming weekend (8 June), for S$168 and S$68 respectively.
While Samsung’s claims of them being “slim and fashionable” is debatable, the new Galaxy Fit devices serve as competent activity trackers for everyday use.
In addition to your standard step counter, the activity bands can also automatically detect when you begin working out, whether it’s fast walking, running, or just general dynamic workouts. More than 90 workouts can be selected and tracked through the Samsung Health app.
The bands also do sleep tracking, stress management, and deliver basic notifications for calls and new messages to your wrist.
While not waterproof, they both hold a 5 ATM water-resistant rating, which means they should be good to wear in the shower or a quick dip in the pool.
So what does the extra S$100 get you on the Fit?
Honestly, the only meaningful difference is whether you’d want the larger AMOLED display on the Galaxy Fit, or can settle for the smaller black-and-white one on the Galaxy Fit e. The latter also lacks a gyroscope and charges via pogo pins.
The Galaxy Fit and Galaxy Fit e will be available in Singapore from 8 June in local telecommunication operators, major consumer electronics & IT stores, Samsung Experience Stores and Lazada Singapore.
