Samsung has announced the latest addition to its Galaxy Buds family at its annual Unpacked showcase event – the Galaxy Buds Pro. Launching in Singapore on 29 January 2021, the Galaxy Buds Pro will be the company’s most feature-packed and most expensive true wireless earbuds yet.

Priced at S$308, the Galaxy Buds Pro is the culmination of everything the company has learned about making true wireless earbuds over the past few years. It promises everything you’ll need in a small compact package: superior audio and call quality, adjustable active noise cancellation and ambient sound, wireless charging, improved water resistance, and a good 28 hours of total listening time.

Design-wise, the Galaxy Buds Pro has a case that looks identical to that of the Galaxy Buds Live, but on the inside, you’ll find a new dual-driver set-up that combines an 11mm woofer and a 6.5mm tweeter to pump out more full-bodied sound.

Samsung also promises clearer calls by building in three microphones and a voice pick-up unit, with an integrated windshield technology to filter out interference from natural elements.

The Galaxy Buds Pro also brings adjustable active noise cancellation (ANC) to the table, which lets you fine-tune just how much noise from the outside world you want to let in. According to Samsung, the Galaxy Buds Pro can effectively cancel up to 99% of external noise, which we’re eager to test out.

Ambient Sound is also adjustable, and you can choose to amplify the noise around you by up to 20 decibels so you can hear them through your earbuds. This should be useful for when you need an awareness of your environment, such as a jog through the city.

Samsung says that ANC and ambient sound features now intelligently work together to adapt to your surroundings and optimise your audio experience. For example, when you’re speaking, the Galaxy Buds Pro will automatically switch between cancelling nearby sounds and amplifying them, so you can hear and communicate more effectively.

If you’re embedded in the Galaxy ecosystem, the Galaxy Buds Pro has several new nifty integration features that should make your life easier. Say you’re watching a video on your Galaxy Tab S7 and then receive a call on your Galaxy S21, the Auto Switch feature will pause the video and let you answer the phone using Galaxy Buds Pro. Once the call is over, your earbuds switch back to your tablet, and you can resume watching your video.

The earbuds also support Samsung’s SmartThings Find feature so that you can locate them down to the individual earbuds should you misplace them.

Finally, the Galaxy Buds Pro is the most rugged of any Galaxy Buds to date. With an IPX7 resistance rating, you can theoretically immerse the earbuds in up to 1m of water for 30 minutes without any harm.

Pre-order details

You can pre-order the Galaxy Buds Pro from 15 January 2021 through major consumer electronics & IT stores, Samsung Online Store, Samsung Experience Stores and Samsung Official Store in Lazada and Shopee, and KrisShop. To sweeten the deal, Samsung is throwing in a free wireless charging pad and carrying case for those who pre-order.

If you’re not in a rush to buy one, we’re currently reviewing a set of the Galaxy Buds Pro and will share our findings and verdict before the 29 January 2021 launch date. Stay tuned!
