Samsung shoots down rumours of more affordable Galaxy Z foldable phones

Samsung says it has no plans to make foldable phones that are priced in the midrange segment.

Samsung says it has no plans to make midrange Galaxy Z phones.

The South Korean company was responding to recent rumours of a mid-range Galaxy Z phones launching in the middle of next year with a price tag of around US$400 to US$500.

In a statement to Korea JoongAny Daily, a Samsung spokesperson shared the company does not plan to release "foldable phones that are priced in the midrange" and called the rumours "groundless".

However, the Samsung spokesperson neither confirmed nor denied reports that they are working on a "Fan Edition" (FE) edition Galaxy Z phone. The spokesperson said, "there's nothing decided on the matter".

Since Samsung recently expanded the FE branding to tablets and earbuds, and launched its first FE Galaxy S phone in two years, we won't be surprised if the company eventually unveils a Galaxy Z Flip or Fold FE to fend off competition from Chinese phone makers.
