Samsung confirms that it is ending production of the Galaxy Note7

Yesterday, it was reported that Samsung was suspending production of its beleaguered Galaxy Note7 smartphone.

But now, Samsung has officially confirmed that it is ending production of Galaxy Note7 for good.

This comes after weeks of controversy surrounding its defective batteries. Last month, Samsung issued a worldwide recall after reports that customers' Galaxy Note7 phones caught fire while charging or during use.

However, in the past week, numerous reports (1, 2) began to surface where customers who had their Galaxy Note7 replaced still caught fire.

Samsung issued a statement that said:

"Taking our customer’s safety as our highest priority, we have decided to halt sales and production of the Galaxy Note7."

Just earlier today, it was reported that Samsung has told all of its partners to stop sales of the phone, and also urged all customers to power down their Galaxy Note7 devices.

In addition, Samsung Electronics Singapore also promised a "remedy" for local owners of the Galaxy Note7.

We will post updates as and when we have them, so stay tuned.
