Samsung begins mass production of 12Gb LPDDR5 RAM
Samsung just announced that it has begun mass production of the industry's first 12Gb LPDDR5 mobile DRAM, which has been optimized for 5G and AI features in future premium smartphones.
The 12Gb LPDDR5 is estimated to be 1.3x faster than previous mobile memory (LPDDR4X, 4266Mb/s) with a data rate of 5,500Mb/s. When made into a package, the LPDDR5 is able to transfer 44GB of data (12 Full-HD movies) in only a second. It also uses 30% less power, thanks to the new circuit design with enhanced clocking, training and low-power feature.
As mass production is underway, it is expected to appear in the upcoming Galaxy Note10 models. The company expects to develop a 16Gb LPDDR5 next year to maintain its competitive edge in the global memory market.
