More than six months after unveiling it at CES 2023, Samsung has announced the global availability of its 27-inch ViewFinity S9 (S90PC) monitor.
The 27-inch 5K monitor was launched in South Korea last month (in June) and is coming to the U.S. in August, followed by other countries, with launch schedules varying by region.
Dubbed as the rival of the Apple Studio Display, the Samsung ViewFinity S9 sports a resolution of 5,120 x 2,800 pixels (218ppi), 600 nits brightness, a 1000:1 contrast ratio, Pantone Validated and 99% DCI-P3 for vibrant and realistic colours. This is not bad at all for an IPS display, and with a matte screen treatment, it's also Glare Free certified by UL, a highly popular standards and safety certification-oriented company.
With a Unified Reflections Glare (UGR) value of less than 10 for glare reflection, you can be sure your eyes will find it more comfortable than most screens for prolonged work needs. To augment this, the monitor is also backed by independent TÜV Rheinland for Low Blue Light, Flicker-free, and Eyesafe as part of its Eye Comfort certification.
Compared to the Apple Studio Display, consumers do not need to fork out additional money for a matte display texture and built-in height and tilt adjustment on the Samsung ViewFinity S9. Through Thunderbolt 4 and DisplayPort connectivity, this 5K screen comes alive to be compatible with both your Mac or Windows system. For Apple users, you'll also be delighted to know this screen has AirPlay capability to mirror or extend your output with compatible Apple products, wirelessly.
The Samsung 5K monitor is the first monitor in the industry to use the Smart Calibration feature controlled by smartphones via the SmartThings app. This was first introduced to Samsung's premium TVs in 2022 for hassle-free calibration. On the Viewfininty S9, users can calibrate in basic mode for a quick and easy adjustment of white balance and gamma settings or professional mode for complete control of colour temperature, luminance, colour space, and gamma settings.
Lastly, the monitor also doubles up as a Smart TV with a full Tizen OS running the screen independently so that you can treat it like a mini TV, complete with far-field voice support through Bixby and Alexa voice assistants, NFT, Tap View and Multi View screen management options just like a full-fledged Samsung TV. The cherry on the entire package is the integrated 4K SlimFit camera for really high-res video conferencing support either with the Smart TV's apps or via your system's video collaboration apps.
For S$2,288, it may sound like a lot, but with so much to offer, this is truly a screen that professionals will adore - especially if one needs to work with multiple systems and requires both Mac and Windows OS support. It's now available from Samsung's online store, and a tech retailer on Lazada.
