While leaked benchmarks for the alleged Samsung Galaxy S III point to the possibility of perhaps two Galaxy devices at its upcoming May 3rd Mobile Unpacked 2012 event in London, this piece of news more or less confirms the that the next phone will have the Exynos 4 quad-core processor.

According to Samsung's press release, the chip is "already in production... [and] is scheduled to be adopted first into Samsung's next Galaxy smartphone that will officially be announced in May. Samsung's Exynos 4 Quad is also sampling to other major handset makers". This is indicative of the fact that at least one smartphone with the Exynos 4 quad-core chip would be shown at the event. This corresponds with a video shot by Vietnamese site, Tinhte, which purports that the device will be powered by a quad-core 1.4GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 8-megapixel camera, 16GB of storage plus microSD capability.

The Exynos 4 Quad chip is also said to "double the processing power at a 20 percent lower power bill over its predecessor, the 45nm process-based Exynos 4 Dual". Throw in the fact that earlier GPU benchmark results that were leaked positioned it ahead current competition including the latest Tegra 3 and Adreno 225 GPUs by a fair amount, only losing out to the new iPad's quad-core PowerVR SGX543MP4 GPU - the flagship Samsung Galaxy SIII most likely will be carrying a quad-core processor. Well, we keep our fingers crossed, at least till next week when the details have been officially announced.
