Samsung to Announce Galaxy S5 in January 2014?

The four generations of Samsung Galaxy S flagship devices.

Samsung may be accelerating plans to unveil the next Galaxy S flagship device.

According to Korean media outlets, sources within Samsung told them that the Galaxy S5 will be officially announced in January next year. It will hit retail shelves in February. Apparently, the sales of the Galaxy S4 have not met Samsung's expectations.

The Galaxy S5 is expected to run on a 64-bit processor, which mobile business chief Shin Jong-kyun revealed during his weekly meeting with chief executives of Samsung’s key affiliates in Seoul last month. It is also likely that the recently announced 13-megapixel image sensor with optical image stabilization will debut on the Galaxy S5. Similar to its market strategy with the Galaxy S4 and S4 Active, Samsung is said to be introducing a waterproof variant of the Galaxy S5.

We reviewed the Galaxy S4 in April and found its overall package to be more of a "Galaxy S III Plus". Not only does it has a plastic, uninspiring design, the Galaxy S4 is preloaded with gimmicky software features that do not work all the time.
