Samsung aims to sell more foldable phones next year

The Samsung Galaxy Fold.

Foldable smartphones will be the key focus for Samsung in 2020.

Dong-Jin Koh, CEO of Samsung's mobile business, shared with reporters that the company will significantly increase the sales of foldable phones next year. He is also confident that consumers will see more foldable phones next year.

When asked about a second foldable phone, Koh stated that an announcement on the launch schedule will be revealed when the time is right. Earlier this year, Bloomberg reported that Samsung is working on two more foldable phones.

One of the foldable phones is expected to have a clamshell-like design while the other model will fold outwards similar to the Huawei Mate X. Bloomberg also claimed that Samsung is planning to launch a second foldable phone early next year, which is thinner and more affordable than the Galaxy Fold.

The Galaxy Fold hit local shelves on 18 September with a whopping price tag of S$3,088. Despite its ultra-premium price tag, the Galaxy Fold sold out on the first day of launch. Weeks later, the Galaxy Fold was back in stock and available in more locations.
