Safari in macOS Big Sur can stream 4K HDR and Dolby Vision content on Netflix

macOS Big Sur brings several updates to Safari such as performance improvements, enhanced security features and support for HDR videos. One platform is already taking advantage of the new Safari.

Tipster @ishanagarwal24 shared on Twitter that Netflix on macOS Big Sur's Safari browser is able to support 4K streaming with Dolby Vision on his MacBook Pro. However, Apple's support document reveals only recent Mac models can support HDR video playback.

The limited list of Mac models include MacBook Pro introduced from 2018, the iMac Pro, the Mac mini (2018) and Mac Pro (2019). Although Netflix has been offering 4K content for some time, Mac users cannot watch them in 4K due to hardware limitations.
